Chap Goh Meh

Today "Chap Goh Meh" is last day of Chinese New Year. Also known "Chinese Valentine Day" please do not confuse by "Valentine's Day".

As you know in ancient time in China young women and virgin's girls are not allowed to go outside of their house. So on this special day they had special previllage to get out of their house.

So let me tell you this funny story from my grandmother which she told me this funny story.
On the night of "Chap Goh Meh" a young pretty woman go out to have fun and caught attention of one young man. So as you knew that man fell in love to that young woman and without her notice that man followed her home. After some little investigation it turn out that it only daughter.
Following next week that young man seek a proposal to marriage to woman family. The woman family in shock and confuse want their daughter. To cut the story short they accept the proposal and that man finally got his future wife.
After all the party end , that man finally get his wife the whole night. When he entered his room and in total shock is not the same woman that he saw on "Chap Goh Meh" night. It because his bride is ugly fat woman and totally different from what he saw on that day.
Finally in end that woman he saw is her cousin from other district came to her house to celebrate "Chap Goh Meh" and she already married.

There is one custom on this day. That is throwing oranges for ladies (single and still finding a husband) . For man he must throw apples except 'granny smith' . For those who wants promotion and to be leader like C.E.O. throw some stone.
